Apartment Finishing Steps in Egypt: From Bare Brick to Handover

Apartment Finishing Steps in Egypt: From Bare Brick to Handover

Getting the order of finishing works right is what protects you from breaking and redoing work and from rising costs. This guide walks through the steps of finishing an apartment from bare brick to handover in the right order, and what to check at each stage.

1. Design and space planning

Before any site work, decide how each room will be used, where furniture, the kitchen and bathrooms go. Interior design and 3D renders fix the positions of sockets, lighting and water outlets and save costly changes later.

2. Masonry and layout changes

Build or remove walls according to the new design and adjust door and window openings. Any change to structural walls must be reviewed by an engineer.

3. Rough-in: electrical, plumbing and A/C

  • Electrical: conduit routes, the distribution board and circuit loads.
  • Plumbing: supply and drainage pipes, plus a pressure test before closing the walls.
  • A/C: copper piping and condensate drains for each unit.

4. Plastering and waterproofing

Once rough-in is complete and checked: plaster walls and ceilings, waterproof bathrooms and kitchen, and screed floors to level.

5. Gypsum and false ceilings

Gypsum board ceilings, spotlight openings and hidden lighting, after confirming electrical and A/C routes above them.

6. Flooring and wall cladding

Ceramic, porcelain, marble or parquet, plus bathroom and kitchen tiling.

7. Carpentry and kitchen

Doors, wardrobes and the kitchen, after taking final measurements on site.

8. Painting

Putty, sanding and primer, then the final colours. The last coat goes on after most items are installed so it isn’t scratched.

9. Final fit-out and handover

Sanitary ware, switches and sockets, light fittings, then cleaning and a handover walk-through of every item with you.

FAQ

What is the first step in finishing an apartment?

Design and space planning come first, before any work on site, because the positions of sockets, lighting and plumbing outlets are set by the design. Rough-in works follow.

Does electrical work come before plumbing or after?

Usually both happen in the same rough-in phase, after masonry and before plastering. What matters is finishing both and pressure-testing the plumbing before plastering and closing the walls.

Why pressure-test the pipes?

Any leak found after walls and floors are closed means breaking and redoing work at a much higher cost. The test catches problems while they are still easy to fix.

How long does apartment finishing take?

It depends on the size, finishing level and scope. Bright Interiors gives you a written schedule in the contract after the site visit.
